Five Secret Skills for a Successful CPQ Process

1. Clarity on application performance

Determine the desired response times of the application before selecting the supplier. This prevents disappointment and delays at a later stage. Create a detailed sketch of the ideal situation and don’t allow yourself to be limited by the current working method. Based on scenarios, you consider how the ideal process is designed. Ask yourself relevant questions to arrive at the scenarios. For example: ‘To what extent can the work flow between customer, seller and other relevant departments be automated during contract negotiations?’

The initial implementation of a CPQ solution involves costs, but so do maintenance and management. Insight into all costs, including post-implementation costs, ensures a smart approach when optimizing in that area. For example, you can have end users perform the software updates. The potential savings are also determined by the chosen CPQ solution.

When selecting the right implementation partner, do your due diligence. If you notice that the necessary practical experience can help in the optimal preparation, don’t hesitate to ask the supplier you have in mind. Be clear about expectations and rate the supplier against a list of criteria. Remember: when opting for a CPQ implementation, you often enter into a long-term relationship. That deserves a well-considered choice, without concessions.
